Affective Needs. Many school districts primarily focus on addressing the intellectual and physical needs of students, but may not do enough to foster their social and emotional needs, especially with students who are identified as gifted and talented. Before gifted students can begin performing at their highest academic level, educators and parents must become aware of their needs. In our ideal gifted classroom, we aspire for gifted children to reach their full potential. By meeting their physiological, safety, belonging, and esteem needs, students can ultimately reach self-actualization where their full potential is realized.
